The inspiration

Our journey into the world of gilded insects began with a simple question: How can we turn our colorful plastic insect collection into something unique and beautiful? We received a set of plastic insects as part of an explorer kit, a thoughtful gift from our family. While the insects were adorable, they weren’t very realistic with their vibrant red, green, and other colorful hues.

After some brainstorming, we decided to embark on a creative adventure and give our plastic insects a stunning makeover through a fake taxidermy craft project. Here’s how we did it:

Crafting your gilded insects

1. Gather Your Materials:
– Plastic insects from your explorer kit
– Cardboard
– Golden paint
– Paintbrushes
– Craft glue
– Scissors

2. Prepare Your Workspace:
Clear a well-ventilated area and lay down some newspaper or a drop cloth to protect your surfaces.

3. Paint the Cardboard:
Paint a piece of cardboard with black paint. This will serve as the background for your gilded insects. You can also choose other colors if you prefer a different look.

4. Gild Your Insects:
Carefully paint your plastic insects with golden paint. This step requires some attention to detail, but the results are worth it. Let them dry thoroughly.

5. Arrange and Glue:
Once your cardboard and insects are dry, arrange the insects on the painted cardboard in a visually appealing way. Once you’re satisfied with the arrangement, use craft glue to secure them in place.

6. Display Your Artwork:
Find the perfect spot to display your gilded insect creation. It could be on a wall, as a centerpiece, or wherever you like.
