DIY Paper Fans with a Watercolor Watermelon Pattern: Simple and Refreshing!

As the scorching heat of summer settles in, we all crave some refreshing ways to beat it. What better way to keep cool than by creating your own delightful DIY paper fans? In this blog post, I’ll guide you through a simple yet charming project that involves making paper fans with a watercolor watermelon pattern. With just A4 paper sheets and a couple of wooden sticks from popsicles, you’ll be able to create a fun and functional accessory that will add a touch of coolness to your summer days.

Folded paper fans

Materials Needed:

  1. A4 paper sheets (preferably white)
  2. Watercolor paints in shades of green, pink, and black
  3. Paintbrushes
  4. Two wooden sticks (popsicle sticks)
  5. Scissors
  6. Glue
  7. Pencil
  8. Ruler

Instructions:

Step 1: Creating the Watercolor Watermelon Pattern
Take an A4 paper sheet and sketch a watermelon pattern lightly using a pencil. Divide the paper into two sections, with the bottom section being larger to represent the watermelon fruit. Fill the larger section with a vibrant pink watercolor wash, while the top section should be painted with a soft green shade to depict the watermelon rind. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Step 2: Adding Details
Once the base colors have dried, use a thin brush and black watercolor paint to add watermelon seeds to the pink section of the pattern. The seeds can be irregularly shaped and placed at random to give a natural look.

Step 3: Folding the Paper Fan
Take the painted paper sheet and fold it accordion-style, with each fold approximately 1 inch wide. Alternate between folding towards you and away from you until the entire sheet is folded.

Step 4: Attaching the Sticks
Unfold the accordion-folded paper slightly and apply a thin line of glue along one of the folds. Place one end of a wooden stick on the glued section and press it firmly. Repeat the same process with the other wooden stick, ensuring they are aligned and parallel.

Step 5: Completing the Fan
Once the glue has dried, fold the fan back together accordion-style. Secure the folded fan with a rubber band or ribbon at the base of the wooden sticks. Trim the ends of the paper if necessary to ensure a clean finish.
