Laced crepes: Today we celebrate Candlemas, in France “la chandeleur” means the first signs of spring slowly arriving and here is all about “crêpes”.

Why do French people make crêpes on this day? Apparently the tradition started when winter planting begin, and the excess flour was perfect to make crêpes. Their shape and color reminded the sun and warmer days coming!

It’s the perfect day to cook with toddlers, and for the first time this year we tried different shapes, hope you like them!

Laced crepes

The recipe is quite simple:

-20 gr (plant based) Butter

– 480 gr( plant) milk
– 250 gr flour

– 3 eggs (can be replaced with 1smashed banana for a vegan recipe)

– pinch of salt

The how-to is similar to the pancakes one: Heat a 15 cm/6-inch  pan . Pour in a ladle of dough by tilting the pan in all directions, and flip the crepe just before the little bubbles appear. Cook the other surface for about a minute, or until the crepe becomes lightly blonde.
