Pierrot paper puppet free template: today I am going to share a new free printable, the pierrot paper puppet, in order to celebrate shrove Tuesday with your kids tomorrow!

It’s been a long time since I’ve shared a free printable, so carnival it’s the best excuse to do this again! So I created that cute Pierrot paper puppet that you can download for free and assemble it together with your children, they can even color it if they want to!

Why pierrot?

[Pierrot is a stock character of pantomime and commedia dell’arte, whose origins are in the late seventeenth-century Italian troupe of players performing in Paris and known as the Comédie-Italienne. The name is a diminutive of Pierre (Peter), via the suffix -ot. His character in contemporary popular culture — in poetry, fiction, and the visual arts, as well as works for the stage, screen, and concert hall — is that of the sad clown, often pining for love of Columbine, who usually breaks his heart and leaves him for Harlequin]. (Wikipedia source)

It’s a common character when it comes to carnival costumes ideas so I thought that a pierrot paper puppet would be nice to share.

Last year we made harlequin masks, and you can find the post here .

How to assemble your puppet

First of all you’ll need to download the free printable below.

You can glue it to cardboard, and color it, feel free to customize it!

Cut the different parts of the puppet and check that you have: 4 fast fasteners, small macrame rope or threat, a wooden pearl (optional)

Once you have cut all the parts (body/arms/legs) create four small holes and put the fasteners. Then right below these holes, make 4 more holes for the rope (check the photo below).

Add now the rope and the wooden pearl.
